Everton have played in this popular curtain-raiser to the season on five occasions - winning it in 1928, 1932, and 1963. Chelsea, with their new £100,000 close-season signing, Keith Weller from Millwall, hope to repeat their 1955 championship triumph when they beat Newcastle three-nil.
